Don't Hug a Grudge

Don't Hug a Grudge is a book by Donna Perugini that is just as useful for adults as it is for children. Grudges are destructive, and if they are coddled and clung to, they just get bigger and harder to get rid of.

This book shows the nature of grudges, and how they negatively affect those who stubbornly cling to them:

"Grudges must have angry, hateful thoughts to make them grow ..."

The author shows how grudges turn to resentment, and that resentment is sin against God (Ephesians 4:26,27). Resentment turns into bitterness, and bitterness is even bigger and uglier than its predecessors.


What I Like: I like that this book shows the seriousness of holding a grudge, and how destructive it can become. The message in this book is simply but clearly stated, and the illustrations add to the understanding of this message. Scripture is thoughtfully used throughout the book. I also like that the book is written in both English and Spanish.

What I Dislike: There isn't anything I particularly dislike about the book although my three year old was a little frightened by the depiction of the grudge. I personally feel that the picture makes the message more powerful, and my five year old was able to grasp that.
