The Potter

The Potter, written by Cindy Starr Stewart, is an allegory for how God creates us and shapes our lives and how me react to His efforts. As clay is molded, shaped and turned into pots, so are our lives molded and shaped by God. As clay pots must face a fire to become strong, so too must we face hardships and trials to make us strong.

With one exception, each double-page of text includes at least one Bible verse that relates to the text on that spread.

The author includes a prayer at the back of the book for us to pray to help us be more moldable, bendable and stretchable.

She also includes a section at the back of the book called “More about the story…” She uses this section to tell how and where she got the inspiration for the text.

The illustrations by Dan Drewes are very detailed and work beautifully with the text.

What I Like: I love the illustrations. They are beautiful. And, I like the symbolism of the text.

What I Dislike: The text is written in verse. Part of it is fine, but much of the rhyme and rhythm is off. I think the text would have worked better written in prose.

Overall Rating: Very good.

The Lamp Maker, written by Cindy Starr Stewart, is a story about a man who makes lamps. Each lamp is different and each serves a different purpose. But each one is made with love and care.

The Lamp Maker is an allegory for God. God is the creator - the lamp maker - and He makes each of us different so we can serve a different purpose. But he fills us with love and cares for us always.
