God Bless Me: A Child's Prayer Book

God Bless Me: A Child’s Prayer Book, written by Sophie Piper, is a collection of almost 150 short prayers for children. Some are traditional prayers and some are by well-known people like St. Francis of Assisi and Mother Teresa, but most of them are by the author. Also, most of them are written in rhyming verse.

Here’s a sample prayer:

Dear God,
Help me to forget my
mistakes but to remember
what they taught me.

The prayers are categorized according to theme with prayers for being sorry, making amends, and holidays, amongst others. A Table of Contents lists the prayers by category. There is an Index of First Lines at the end of the book, which, as the title implies, lists the first line of each prayer alphabetically.

The illustrations by Barbara Vagnozzi are bright and expressive and work well with the text.

What I Like: Everything.

What I Dislike: Nothing.

Overall Rating: Excellent.

Age Appeal: 4-8.

I like the idea of some of the prayers being in rhyming verse. It will help the children to remember the prayers and make them part of themselves.

Hi Bronwen,

Thanks for taking the time to visit our website, read reviews and leave a comment. This is a great book for kids and I agree, when a rhyme is done correctly (as the ones in this book are), they are great learning tools for children.
