When Someone Dies: Find Comfort in Jesus

When Someone Dies: Find Comfort in Jesus, written by Julie Stiegemeyer, is a guide for children on dealing with death.

When children, and adults, lose a loved one, they often feel lonely, confused, afraid or angry. The author touches on each of these issues and offers the assurance that Jesus knows and understands what they’re feeling. They can rest assured that Jesus loves them and is there for them.

The author also provides some ways to deal with grief. Children can pray for themselves and others; they can help someone who needs an extra hand; they can listen when those around them tell them about Jesus’ love; and they can wait for some of the hurt and pain to go away.

The illustrations, by David Erickson, done in muted colors, are very detailed, expressive, and child-friendly.

What I Like: Just about everything.

What I Dislike: There are no Bible verses or references given for the text. I think that would have been helpful, although the book is well-done without them.

Overall Rating: Very good.

Age Appeal: 4-8.
