The Very First Easter

The Candle Bible for Toddlers, The Very First Easter, by Juliet David, is a combination sticker/storybook with adorable illustrations by Helen Prole. The author also wrote the other books in the Candle Bible for Toddlers group of products.

Before you start this activity, you should pull out the pages that hold the stickers. This is very easy as they are right in the center of the book. The story is broken into a few sections:

Jesus rides into Jerusalem
A Plot to kill Jesus
A special meal with Jesus
Jesus prays
Jesus is put on trial
Soldiers make fun of Jesus
Jesus is put on a cross
Jesus dies
Jesus is buried
Jesus is alive again
Jesus appears to Mary

The stickers included are: Jerusalem, Jesus, disciples, village, donkey, palm, coats, priests, Judas, meal, garden, Pilate, soldiers, cross, Joseph (of Arimathea), Mary, tomb, perfume, angels. Each time these words appear in the story, there is a silhouette of the sticker, along with its word in smaller letters. By the time we had done one page together, my three year old was able to pick out the correct stickers herself.

The story is told simply, but thoroughly. I felt that the book really gave a great understanding of the Easter story to my daughter. There are also four Easter pictures from the story to color.

What I Like: This is such a great resource for toddlers and preschoolers. This activity book is great for getting their hands and minds engaged while teaching them the Easter story. My daughter often has trouble peeling the stickers off of pages, but these stickers came off so easily. If you stick them in the wrong spot, you can easily peel them off of the destination page. There are over 130 stickers included, and quite a few extras in case you make a mistake! After the sticker activity is finished, children will still be able to use this book as a storybook. The stickers aren't the only illustrations either, as each page has very colorful borders and background illustrations.

What I Dislike: I don't dislike anything about this book!
