Heavenly Hugs

Heavenly Hugs, by Hannah Grace, is a book for children dealing with a serious illness. The text is full of comforting statements about how God sends angels to watch over his little sick ones. The angels are there when the child is sleeping, playing, hurting, and sad. The pictures show winged angels of all races, surrounding sick children. The book is written in first person, and explores some of the feelings a child may be experiencing because of a serious illness.

Written compassionately, the book is full of the love of a merciful Father in heaven who feels the pain of a little child:

"God loves His precious children so He sends from above Heavenly hugs to watch over me with much love."

There are also some lined pages in the back of the book where children can write letters to God about what they are feeling.

What I Like: This is a book that I believe will bring comfort to young ones who are sick. I like it that the author makes sure to stress that there will be hard times and pain for a sick child. The sickness may prevail, but a loving Heavenly Father sends comfort with the pain.

What I Dislike:
The book never explains that even though God may send angels for comfort and protection, that they are unseen. There are some grammatical errors (missing punctuation) which do not detract from the effectiveness of this story.

Unfortunately there are many children all over the world suffering from strange and little understood diseases. Bravo to this lady for trying to write something to comfort them. Goodness knows I'm sure their parents are helpless to explain to their little ones why they are sick....
