Hooray! I Obeyed!
Hooray! I Obeyed! by Missy Wolgemuth Schrader, is a little board book that shows that obedience brings happiness. The photographs in this book are of multiracial babies and toddlers happily obeying their parents.
"Mommy asked me to use a happy voice. Hooray! I obeyed!
Daddy asked me to bring in my ball from outside. Hooray! I obeyed!"
The book goes on to show children sharing, listening quietly to a story, and washing hands before lunch. The book ends with:
"Dear Jesus, help me to obey today. Amen."
What I Like: I find myself saying this often in my reviews, but I love the simplicity of this book. I find that with my 10 month old daughter, she perks up when she hears familiar words such as, "Hooray! I Obeyed!" The photographs are adorable. Even my older daughter enjoyed looking at the pictures. One thing my husband and I like to teach our children is that obeying means doing so cheerfully. This book definitely stresses this point. I also appreciate the short prayer at the close of the book. This shows children that we cannot obey on our own, but through God's help!
What I Dislike: I like everything about this little book.
Overall Rating: Excellent
Age Appeal: Baby - Preschool
Publisher Info: Zonderkidz, 2008; ISBN:031071396X ; Boardbook $3.99.
