God Made Food

It's never too early to begin introducing biblical ideas to your child. That's why Michael A. Vander Klipp's God Made Food is such a great little book.

Measuring just 3.75 x 4.50 inches, with a dozen pages and a baby- and toddler-sized handle on the side, God Made Food is one in a series of God Made... books published by Kregel. Each page is perfect for infants and toddlers. For example, in God Made Food, the book begins with a colorful photograph of a watermelon and the words: "God Made Watermelon." Each subsequent page features the same design for bananas, cheese, grapes, milk, green beans, corn, strawberries, eggs, apples, and orange juice. The final page reads:

"'Every living thing looks to you, the Lord, for food. You give it to them exactly when they need it.' Psalm 145:15"

What I Like: I'm always thrilled to see books like this for very young children. Not only will babies and toddlers love the size of the book (just the right size for their little hands), but the photos are clear and colorful and they'll learn about different types of food. Plus they will learn that God made everything we eat...and a Bible verse, besides.

What I Dislike: This book is terrific as is, but if I would have liked to see a few foods that babies are familiar with. Rice cereal, anyone?

Overall Rating: Excellent.

Age Appeal: I can find no publisher recommendation, but I'd say newborn to age 2.

We have this book. It was our first food picture book -- something I was specifically looking for (they are hard to find)!

Definitely a great book. Glad to see you review it.
