The Story of Jonah

The Story of Jonah , is an oversized board book that is shaped like a fish! Illustrated by Nadine Wickenden, this book is written in verse.

"God said to Jonah, 'I'm getting quite mad
From watching those people do things that are bad.
Go there and tell them to listen to me,'
But Jonah said, 'No way!' and ran off to sea."

The illustrations are vivid, with many little details. At the end of the story, there are review questions that will help children think deeper into the story.

Finally, there is a prayer: "Dear God, thank you for sending the big fish to save Jonah, and for forgiving the people when they obeyed you. Thank you for saving us, and for forgiving us, too. Help us always to obey you. Amen."

What I like: I love the illustrations, and the sturdy shape of this board book. It isn't convenient to take on a trip, but we enjoy it at home!

What I Dislike: The story is slightly "watered down." As a parent, I would stress the point that you cannot hide from God, and that we must obey when he tells us to do something. The wording of the prayer takes for granted that the child listening to the story is already saved.

Overall Rating: Very good
