Why Is There A Cross?

Why Is There A Cross? is written by Kathleen Long Bostrom, with precious illustrations by Elena Kucharik. Children have a lot of questions about Jesus. However, It's often difficult for them to understand our explanations. The author uses a gentle approach to the many questions children have about Jesus and the cross. There are several opportunities to discuss the life and death of Jesus with your children by addressing some of these questions mentioned in the book.

"Why did his life have to turn out this way?
Could Jesus have changed it by running away?"

The author notes that Jesus' death was part of Gods plan. She also mentions the garden where Jesus went to pray. Children can begin to understand that even though we may not want to do certain things, we must be obedient to God.

"Even though Jesus did just what God asked,
Facing the cross was a difficult task."

The author notes Jesus' resurrection and the one thing no one can take away from us:

"Death cannot stop it, not worry or fear.
God's love is forever, so be of good cheer."

Children will also learn what they can do to show their love to Jesus.

"If you trust in Jesus and give him your best,
You'll show that you love him, and you will be blessed."

What I Like: Everything! I especially appreciate the authors representation of the truth. There are five pages of Bible references in the back so you can continue to teach your young ones more about God, His Son, and His love. The illustrations are clear with luring expressions on each character's face.

What I Dislike: Absolutely nothing!

Age Appeal: 4 - 8

Overall Rating: Excellent!
