The Lord's Prayer for Little Ones

The Lord's Prayer can be difficult for adults to understand, let alone for kids to comprehend. Leave it to Allia Zobel Nolan, author of The Lord's Prayer for Little Ones, to break it down to a kid's level so they understand how they're supposed to pray.

If you're familiar with Red Skelton's interpretation of "The Pledge of Allegiance," you've got the basic premise of this book. Using one phrase or line from the NKJV of The Lord's Prayer, Nolan skillfully interprets the verses in a way children can understand. For instance, "Give us this day our daily bread" is interpreted this way:
Father, You always give us what we need.
So we pray for enough food for today.
We believe You'll give it to us because You're a generous Dad.
You know how to take care of Your children.
So we never have to worry.

Each of the lines are interpreted beautifully in the illustrations by Janet Samuel.

What I Like: This book has everything going for it. Bright, colorful artwork by Ms. Samuel, a great lesson on prayer that's broken down to a kid's level, plus a glossary, and a Q & A section to see if your child has learned from the book. You can even learn a little dance together to help your child remember the Lord's Prayer--and make it fun for them, too.

I really liked the dual introductions at the beginning of the book. The first is geared for your child, which underscores the importance of the Lord's Prayer. The second is for you and gives you some tools and ideas to help you convey the importance of understanding the Lord's Prayer to your child.

What I Dislike: Nothing, other than the fact the scripture quoted is King James.
